Editing a global filter changes mail handling for the entire cPanel account. A small change to an operator or an OR condition can affect many recipients, so identify the existing rule and test the intended difference before leaving it active.

Prepare for the change
Copy the old filter name, conditions, actions and position in the rule list. Obtain one real example of the message you want to change and a normal message that must remain unaffected. Do not expose private message contents when asking for help.
01 Change a global email filter without disrupting other mailboxes
- Open Global Email Filters and find the exact rule under the current filters list. Select Edit.
- Review all conditions before replacing a value. Check whether the criterion examines the sender, subject, headers or body, since the same text can appear in different places.
- Change only the necessary condition or destination. If changing a redirect, confirm the new destination exists and can receive mail.
- Save the rule and check its order relative to earlier rules. An earlier discard or delivery action may prevent the new behaviour from being reached.
- Run Filter Test with matching and nonmatching messages, then perform a fresh external delivery test. Keep the original settings available until the result is confirmed.
Confirm the expected result
Confirm that only the intended message group changes destination or handling. Verify an unrelated mailbox still receives normal mail.
Does editing a global filter recover or reprocess earlier messages?
Editing a filter affects future processing. It does not retrieve previously deleted messages or move historical mail automatically. If new deliveries differ from the test preview, inspect mailbox filters and spam handling as well. Restore the recorded original rule if the change causes unexpected delivery.
