Creating and assigning DirectAdmin user packages

control-panels, web-hosting

A DirectAdmin user package provides a repeatable starting point for customer limits and features. It helps prevent accidental over-allocation and inconsistent services, while still allowing authorized account-specific changes when the plan requires them.

Check access and requirements

Use the reseller that owns the accounts, or the appropriate administrator context. List the intended disk, bandwidth, domains, databases and mailbox allowances. Confirm that these fit inside the reseller allocation and that the underlying software supports the selected features.

01 Create and assign DirectAdmin user packages

  1. Open Account Manager and Manage User Packages at Reseller level. Choose Add Package and use an identifiable name tied to the service you actually provide.
  2. Set the resource limits and choose permitted services. Leave anonymous FTP and shell access disabled unless there is a justified requirement and the server supports them safely.
  3. Review the feature set, skin and suspension policy. A feature hidden by branding is not the same as a permission being disabled.
  4. Save, then choose the package when creating a user. For an existing account, open List Users, select the account and modify its package. Record custom values before replacing them.
  5. Compare the resulting account configuration with the intended plan. Explain any reduced quota or removed feature before applying the change to a customer with active workloads.

Will editing a package update every account automatically?

Do not assume that it will. Inspect the package update options and account-specific values in your installed version, then verify a representative account before changing a whole customer group.

Confirm the expected result

Test with a limited account and inspect the user view. Confirm that a database, mailbox or domain can be created only within the allowed limits. Check that the account retained its existing content and that custom settings you intended to keep remain present.

Resolve setup problems

If changing the package fails, check current usage and the reseller maximum allocation. An account already over a lower limit needs a planned cleanup or an appropriate package, not repeated forced changes. Reapply the recorded configuration if an intended feature disappeared.
