Configuring and testing a SitePad contact form

development

Configure both the visible SitePad form and the method used to deliver its notification. A successful on-screen submission does not by itself prove that the intended recipient received the message.

01 Configure and test the form

  1. Open the page's Contact Form widget. Add only the fields needed for the enquiry and give each field a clear label. Set the required fields deliberately.
  2. In Settings > Contact Form, review the recipient, sender, subject and success or failure messages. Check whether the widget uses a custom mail template that overrides these global settings.
  3. Use a sender address authorised for your website's sending service. Put a visitor's address in the supported reply-to configuration instead of impersonating that visitor in the From field.
  4. If using SMTP, open the advanced SMTP option and enter the provider's current host, port, encryption and authentication details. Keep certificate verification enabled and use a supported authentication method.
  5. Configure the available spam protection and the intended success message or redirect. Keep any secret credentials out of page text and screenshots.
  6. Publish the page and submit a clearly labelled test from a private browser window. Confirm delivery, reply behaviour and the recorded field values.
  7. Repeat with a missing required field and an invalid email address. Confirm that errors explain how to correct the submission.

Common questions

Why does changing the global recipient have no effect?

The widget may have its own mail template. Check its override settings and form identifier before changing unrelated mailboxes.

What if SMTP authentication fails?

Verify the exact provider settings and supported credentials. A normal mailbox password may not be accepted when the provider requires a different supported sign-in method.

What should I send support?

Provide the page URL, test time, intended recipient and visible error. Include relevant delivery evidence with passwords and form-submitted personal details removed.
