Retiring a CodeGuard-protected site without losing needed backups

backups

Before removing a website from CodeGuard, decide what history must be retained and where the replacement protection will run. Deleting the CodeGuard site record can remove its backup history.

01 Retire without losing needed recovery points

  1. Confirm the site is being retired or migrated and identify its business owner.
  2. Download required file and database backups and verify that the archives open.
  3. If the site is moving, complete a successful backup on the new destination and test its scope.
  4. Review any requirement to retain older versions before selecting the site's removal action in CodeGuard settings.
  5. After authorised removal, revoke credentials or firewall exceptions used only by that retired backup connection.

02 Review the subscription separately

Removing a protected site and cancelling a Nabtech service are separate account actions. Check the current order and billing arrangement through the client area so the intended service change is handled correctly.

Common questions

Can I delete and re-add a site just to change hosts?

Use the supported transition process and preserve needed history first. Re-adding can create a fresh initial backup without carrying the old history into the new record.

Does removing CodeGuard delete my live website?

The CodeGuard record manages backup protection. Read the actual confirmation and distinguish it from hosting cancellation or deleting live files.

What if I have room to keep both sites temporarily?

Keeping the old record during migration can help preserve history, subject to the plan and storage. Verify the new protection before retiring the old record.

Record the final retained backup location, dates covered and person responsible for it. Inform the site owner of any gap between the old and new backup systems. Do not leave old server credentials active after they no longer serve an approved recovery purpose.
