Reinstalling a VPS operating system with Virtualizor

An operating-system reinstall rebuilds the VPS from a selected template. Treat it as a destructive replacement of the existing system disk, not as a software update or a safe way to recover a forgotten login.

What you need before you begin

Export and verify independent backups of website files, databases, mail, configuration and required keys. Record assigned addresses and application requirements. Confirm what happens to additional disks on your service with support. Choose a supported operating system compatible with the applications and any control-panel licence.

01 Reinstall a VPS operating system with Virtualizor

  1. Log in to Virtualizor and compare the VPS ID, hostname and IP with the server you intend to rebuild.
  2. Open Manage > Install and choose the operating-system reinstall tool. Select an available supported image and its intended version.
  3. Review the authentication options. Generate a unique administrator password where required and store it securely; use SSH keys when supported by the template and service.
  4. Read the deletion warning. Proceed only after confirming that the necessary data exists outside the VPS and that you can restore it.
  5. Submit the reinstall once and follow its task status. Do not start competing power or installation operations. The duration depends on image size and platform activity.
  6. After completion, connect through the console or approved remote-access method, install security updates and configure the firewall before restoring applications.

How do I verify the reinstalled operating system?

Confirm the installed release, hostname, networking and disk layout. Restore a test dataset first, then verify the complete application and backup routine. An SSH host-key change after a confirmed rebuild is expected, but verify the new key through a trusted route before accepting it.

Troubleshoot unexpected results

If the task fails, preserve its error and ask support to check the template and storage state. Do not repeatedly reinstall hoping to recover old files. If the wrong server was selected, stop further writes and contact support immediately; recovery is not guaranteed.
