Creating a file or folder in SiteWorx File Manager

Use SiteWorx File Manager to create a small text file or organise website folders. The selected domain and current path determine where the new item is created, so check both before making it.

01 Check access and requirements

Decide whether the item should be public. Files beneath a website’s document root may be downloadable, so keep credentials, database dumps and private backups outside that public directory.

02 Create a file or folder in SiteWorx File Manager

  1. Open File Manager, choose the correct domain and select Login.
  2. Navigate to the intended parent folder. The domain home and its public html folder are different locations.
  3. Choose New Item, select whether you need a file or folder, and enter a clear name with the appropriate extension for a file.
  4. Select Create Now, then confirm the item appears in the expected path. Open a new text file with the editor to add its contents and save.
  5. For a public page, test the intended URL. For a private item, verify it is outside the served root instead of relying on an obscure filename.

03 Confirm the expected result

The item should exist under the correct domain with an appropriate name and permissions. Creating an empty PHP or HTML file does not create a complete application or automatically make it the homepage.

04 Example: create a test file in the correct website directory

Confirm the document root for the intended domain before creating a file. A hosting account can contain several websites and private directories. Saving a test in the wrong root can make it appear on another site or leave sensitive material publicly reachable.

Use a harmless temporary filename and content that contains no credentials or personal information. Open its expected public URL only when the file is meant to be public. After verifying the path, remove the test and check that the URL no longer exposes it.

What file permissions should I use?

Keep the platform's appropriate defaults unless the application documentation establishes a specific requirement. Avoid setting broad write permissions just to remove an error. A write failure may indicate the wrong owner, path or account scope.

Do not create backup copies of configuration files in the public directory without access protection. A copy with a different extension may be served as ordinary text. When you ask our team for help, include the domain, intended path and exact error. We can review the location without needing the secrets stored inside your configuration file.

Why can Tiny File Manager not create my new file or directory?

If creation fails, check quota and parent-directory permissions. Do not make the directory world-writable as a general workaround. If the name already exists, inspect it before replacing anything, and remember that Linux filenames are case-sensitive.
