FileZilla can organise folders on the hosting server as well as your own computer. The remote pane normally appears on the right, so confirm which side and path you are using before creating or deleting anything.

Check access and requirements
Connect with an authorised secure account and identify the website’s actual document root. Back up any directory you intend to remove and check whether an application, upload path or scheduled job still uses it.
01 Create and delete remote folders in FileZilla
- Navigate the remote pane to the intended parent folder. Read the full path above the file list.
- To create a folder, use the remote list’s context menu and choose the create-directory action. Enter the intended name and confirm it appears in the right location.
- To remove a folder, first inspect its contents and dependencies. Download a verified copy if any data must be retained.
- Select only the intended remote directory, choose the delete action and review any recursive-removal confirmation. Remote deletion should be treated as permanent unless a separate backup exists.
- Refresh the listing and test the affected website or application after the change.
Confirm the expected result
The remote directory tree should match the intended structure, and required pages or uploads should still work. Creating a folder locally does not create it on the server until it is transferred or created remotely.
What if FileZilla cannot remove a folder or I removed the wrong one?
If removal fails, check permissions and whether new files are appearing while the application runs. Do not broaden permissions to 777 or delete a parent directory to force cleanup. Restore from your verified backup if the wrong folder was removed.
