Reinstalling a VPS from an operating-system image in SolusVM

Reinstallation replaces the existing VPS operating system with a selected image. It can provide a clean starting point, but existing data on the rebuilt disk must be treated as lost unless you have verified an independent recovery copy.

What you need before you begin

Back up files, databases, mail, configuration, keys and any required licences outside the VPS. Test that the backup can be read. Confirm the scope of additional disks with support and choose an available supported operating system compatible with your workload.

01 Reinstall a VPS from an operating-system image in SolusVM

  1. Open the intended project and server, then compare the VPS ID and address with your rebuild plan.
  2. Find the server reinstallation action in its settings or service controls. Only images allowed by your service will be available.
  3. Select the desired image and version. Review administrator authentication, SSH-key and application options shown by the installer. Avoid obsolete operating-system releases even if an old article used them as examples.
  4. Read the deletion warning and confirm that the necessary backups exist independently of the disk being rebuilt. Submit the operation once.
  5. Monitor task completion without sending competing power commands. Store the resulting credential securely, or use the authorized SSH key configured for the image.
  6. After first login, apply updates and establish firewall and administrator access before restoring production data.

How do I check the reinstalled VPS?

Confirm the operating-system release, network configuration, guest tools and disk layout. Restore the application, verify it thoroughly and establish a fresh backup routine. Verify a changed SSH host key through a trusted console after a confirmed rebuild.

Troubleshoot unexpected results

If a template or reinstallation option is missing, ask support about your plan and platform permissions. For a failed task, retain the error and stop repeated rebuild attempts. Reinstallation does not recover a forgotten password while preserving the old system; use a supported recovery procedure when data must survive.
