Removing a SiteWorx subdomain after retiring its website

control-panels, domains-dns

Removing a subdomain retires its hosting configuration. Plan the change separately from deleting website files, DNS, certificates or application data, because these resources may have different dependencies and retention needs.

Prepare for the change

Back up the site and database, record the document root and review incoming links. If the old hostname should redirect to a replacement website, first arrange a surviving endpoint that accepts the old hostname, has the required HTTPS certificate and serves the redirect. Verify that endpoint after the planned DNS change. If the redirect still depends on this SiteWorx subdomain configuration, keep that configuration until an independent replacement is working.

01 Remove a SiteWorx subdomain after retiring its website

  1. Open Hosting Features > Domains > Subdomain and locate the complete hostname you intend to retire.
  2. Check its document root and confirm that another site does not use the same files. Review scheduled jobs or integrations that call this hostname.
  3. Use the trash or delete action for that subdomain and read the confirmation before proceeding.
  4. Update DNS at the authoritative provider according to the retirement plan. Avoid leaving a dangling record that points to an unrelated service or unused third-party resource.
  5. Keep any retained backup outside public access and remove remaining files or databases only after separately confirming they are no longer needed.

Confirm the expected result

The hostname should no longer appear in the active subdomain list. Check the intended public outcome, whether that is a controlled redirect or retirement, and verify the parent site remains intact.

What if I remove the wrong SiteWorx subdomain?

If you selected the wrong hostname, recreate the correct configuration using the recorded root and restore any affected data from backup. Do not assume deleting the panel entry erases every stored file or cancels domain registration. Ask support before removing a shared document root.
