Add a separate website domain when another registered name should have its own files rather than display the primary site. Current cPanel performs this through Domains, even when older guides call the feature an addon domain.

Check access and requirements
Confirm the account’s domain allowance and the new site’s storage and resource needs. Register the domain separately and decide where DNS is managed. A second website in the same hosting account still shares that account’s available resources and administrative boundary.
01 Add a separate website domain in cPanel
- Open Domains > Create a New Domain. Enter the full new domain name and clear Share document root when that option is offered.
- Choose a distinct document root and review any associated subdomain field that the form requires. Do not select the folder of an unrelated live website.
- Create the domain and record the path shown in the domain list. Upload or install this website only into that path.
- Set the necessary DNS records at the authoritative DNS provider using the addresses supplied for the service. DNS changes can cache for different lengths of time; there is no universal fixed propagation interval.
- Arrange SSL and configure the application’s public URL after the hostname reaches the intended hosting service.
Confirm the expected result
Open the new domain and confirm it serves its own files. Also visit the original website to ensure the new setup did not overwrite its document root.
Why is the additional domain rejected or showing the wrong website?
If cPanel reports that the domain already exists, check other services or aliases before repeating the operation. If the wrong content appears, inspect DNS, document root and application URL settings. A domain-limit error requires the appropriate plan or support review, not a duplicate folder workaround.
