On an eligible cPanel service, Softaculous may offer a WordPress Multisite installation option. Use it only after confirming the network's domain structure, resource needs and management support. This procedure applies to the cPanel installer, not to a presumed Multisite checkbox in every NabWP setup screen.

01 Prepare the network
Choose an unused installation destination and confirm that your hosting plan supports the required domains and resource usage. Decide whether sites should use subdirectories or subdomains. Subdomain networks may require wildcard DNS and appropriate server routing; custom mapped domains each need working DNS, hosting configuration and HTTPS coverage.
Review the compatibility of themes, plugins and backup tools with Multisite. Keep a backup before changing an existing installation. If the goal is to convert an existing single site, follow WordPress's network-conversion procedure instead of installing a second copy over its files.
02 Create the installation
- Open cPanel and launch Softaculous Apps Installer from the Software area or search.
- Select WordPress and open the installation form. Confirm the domain, HTTPS protocol and directory.
- If the form provides Enable Multisite (WPMU), review its description and the structure it will create. If the choice is absent or unsuitable, ask us to confirm the supported route.
- Enter a secure administrator account, recovery email and site details. Review optional additions and update settings.
- Start installation, wait for completion and open the WordPress administration link.
03 Configure and test the network
Open My Sites > Network Admin. Review network settings, registration policy and upload restrictions. Add one test site through Sites, Add New, then verify its public URL, dashboard, media upload and HTTPS connection.
The Super Admin installs network code and controls which themes are available. Network-enabling a theme makes it available to sites; each site can then activate an allowed theme. A network-activated plugin operates across the network, while individual activation depends on network settings and plugin design.
How does a Multisite backup differ from a single-site backup?
Check whether a backup or restore covers the whole network, one database or a genuinely supported individual subsite. Do not assume a tool labelled WordPress backup can selectively recover one subsite without affecting others. Test updates against more than the main site because different subsites may use different themes and features.
If a new subdomain does not resolve, check DNS and hosting routing before changing WordPress users or reinstalling. If it resolves with a certificate warning, address certificate coverage. Repeated network installation attempts will not fix those external prerequisites.
